In the operating room itself, Dr McKeag will concentrate on performing a procedure which is gentle on the eye.

A keyhole operation is performed with an ultrasound (phacoemulsification) to dissolve the cataract, and a new clear lens is placed inside the eye. Laser assisted cataract surgery is an evolving technology which aims to minimise the use of ultrasound energy and also improves reliability in positioning the new lens.
